With a 9.5% unemployment rate, school Career Services offices are seeing scores of both students and alumni who are looking for jobs. As an undergrad, here are 8 reasons to take advantage of all it has to offer:
1. Help you Pick a Major or Explore Career Options
If you haven't declared a major yet, the professionals in the career services office can help you find your way. Be sure to share your professional interests and goals with them so they can better guide you. They will also be able to help you explore different career paths and show you where to access more information on your own.
2. A Place to Discover On-Campus Recruiting Programs
On-campus recruiting programs bring employers to a school and serve as opportunities for students to interview with them. This gives students access to a wide range of companies, but should not be considered your single source of employment resources. Check with your office to see what the process is and when they take place.
3. All About Career Fairs
Career Fairs are events organized by the school. They are designed to help students in their career development by providing them the chance to talk to recruiters from various companies. Students can get employer information, explore job opportunities, find summer internships and full-time jobs.

4. Find Out About Career Seminars and Workshops
Throughout the academic year, there will be workshops and seminars offered covering a broad range of topics, ranging from choosing a major to interview tips, resume writing and job search strategies.
5. A Vast Career Resource Library
Career Services offices offer a wealth of information - occupation descriptions, salary surveys, job search guides, employer databases, study abroad and internship information. If they don't have what you're looking for there they will be able to point you in the right direction.
6. Use the Career Services Website
The Career Services website is an excellent way to access most of the resources available in the office. However, it is also helpful to go in and enlist the help of a trained professional to guide you through your search.
7. Take Advantage of the Alumni Network
A great way to start networking is to utilize your Career Services Alumni Network, which is comprised of professionals who have volunteered to help students in their job search. These alums may have contacts who are hiring managers, can share information about available opportunities or even serve as a mentor.
