School Teacher
It is a school teacher`s responsibility to facilitate student learning using interactive discussions, assignments, lesson plans, and other `hands-on` approaches. Teachers develop unique methods for teaching depending on their students` background, knowledge, environment, and learning goals as well as the standardized curricula determined by the relevant authority. Teachers need to be able to deal with students at different ability levels and will often have to complete their job outside the classroom by preparing lesson plans in the evenings or weekends, grading papers, and accompanying field trips. They may also oversee study halls, organize school functions, supervise extracurricular activities, or coach sports teams. In addition to being well versed in the particular subject(s) they will teach, good school teachers are also passionate, enthusiastic, and possess excellent `people.` Skills. The No Child Left Behind act requires that all teachers be `highly qualified` as defined by law. A `highly qualified` teacher is one who has fulfilled the state`s certification requirements and demonstrated subject matter expertise. Thus, it is important that prospective teachers research the Department of Education published criteria for the state in which they plan to teach to understand what is required to achieve `highly qualified` status. |
